Sustainable Hour: Stone – the Construction Material of the Future taking place at Urania on Thursday, February 12 at 5:30 PM. This program explores architectural practices focused on responsible, material-conscious, and climate-relevant construction.
Focusing on stone as a fundamental building element, Sustainable Hour examines the inseparable relationship between form, structure, and material. The discussion highlights detailing, the expression of construction, and how form emerges from material — and vice versa.
The program begins with a lecture by architect Marco Ernesto Rossi, Design and Projects Director (Cosentino, Italy), followed by a discussion with civil engineer Dorian Radmilović (Cosentino Croatia & Slovenia) and interior designer and Sales Director Bianca Štrukelj (Cosentino).
Participants explore holistic approaches to space, landscape, and resources, offering diverse perspectives in a process where stone is not seen as a return to tradition. In contemporary architecture, stone becomes an active participant in shaping space. The discussion will also cover innovations in stone applications by Cosentino, modern stone cladding techniques, differences compared to natural quarried stone and ceramics, environmental requirements and CO₂ compensation, pricing and availability of quarried stone, and maintenance of stone surfaces.
Marco Ernesto Rossi is an architect with over thirty years of experience in architecture, façade systems, and managing complex international projects. He has led A&D teams, developed industrial and sustainable building systems, collaborated with leading architectural offices, and taught at the prestigious Politecnico di Milano. His experience with stone spans numerous projects, where challenges were both design- and execution-related, with invaluable insights gained from working closely with stonemasons. In the discussion, he will share a perspective that integrates design, technology, and business strategy, focusing on project and contract management and the development of innovative façade solutions.
