Davor Križić EXPERIMENT

As part of Urania’s JAZZURANIA concert series, Davor Križić Experiment takes the stage to bring this year’s programme dedicated to contemporary Croatian jazz to a close.
The third concert in the series features an ensemble that has been active for more than fifteen years, functioning as a kind of jazz workshop where mid-career and younger musicians come together to explore, develop and perform jazz music.
The Experiment’s repertoire brings together works by jazz greats such as Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Eric Dolphy, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and Charles Mingus, alongside original compositions by the ensemble’s members. What makes the project special is its collaborative process: since the ensemble’s beginnings, Davor Križić has encouraged musicians to create their own material, which is then explored, developed and shaped through their work together.
Over the years, more than 25 musicians have been part of the Experiment, most of them active on Zagreb’s jazz scene. The ensemble has performed in various line-ups, ranging from a quartet to an octet. Released by Aquarius Records in 2014, the album Davor Križić Experiment features exclusively original compositions and received Porin Awards in several jazz categories.
The line-up at Urania features Davor Križić (trumpet and flugelhorn), Luka Žužić (trombone), Elvis Penava (guitar), Joe Kaplowitz (organ) and Janko Novoselić (drums).
Throughout 2026, JAZZURANIA has presented three jazz ensembles: B’s FUNstallation, Vojkan Jocić Quartet and Davor Križić Experiment.
JAZZURANIA is Urania’s concert series dedicated to contemporary Croatian jazz, launched in collaboration with Wendy Zečić and Branko Kostelnik.
Bringing together diverse musical voices and creative approaches, JAZZURANIA invites audiences to discover new sounds and musical experiences, while creating opportunities for musicians to connect, exchange ideas and develop new collaborations.
With this final concert, we bring the 2026 edition of the series to a close, celebrating the creativity and diversity of Croatia’s contemporary jazz scene.
